John’s leadership was tested by multiple crises, including a catastrophic fire in 2008, the financial crisis, Hurricane Harvey and the COVID-19 pandemic. He steered the company through these challenges with strategic insurance claims, rebuilding efforts and operational restructuring. John recalls, “Emerging stronger after the fire showcased our team’s resilience and dedication to our community.”

John’s life is richly woven with his family and community ties. Married to Anna since 1992, they have three children: Madison, Caroline and Jack. He also highlights the invaluable support of his 36 investors and the backing from their primary bank, Prosperity, especially during the critical phases of the company’s growth. Moreover, John extends his gratitude to his senior director of operations, Mohamed Kabrane and his controller, Matt Humphries, whose leadership and dedication have been vital in navigating the company through its various challenges.

John defines success as working hard and smart to accomplish goals as a team and enjoying their outcomes. “Success is about helping organize, teach and make your team better than when they started. It’s about making them feel good about their accomplishments and helping analyze how they can improve,” John explains. He emphasizes the importance of not allowing team members to beat themselves up over failures but instead using constructive criticism to foster growth.

For John, essential qualities include tenacity and determination. “I am very tenacious and determined. I do not like to lose. Doing your homework for next time, congratulating the winner sincerely and trying again are key components of my approach,” he states.
