New Year…New Attitude

At the beginning of a new year, we all make resolutions that are quickly forgotten in the weeks thereafter. This year, I want you to try something different. I want you to work on “self-motivation.” Self-motivation is the force that drives you to do things. It pushes us to achieve our goals, feel more fulfilled and improve the quality of our life. Once you practice self-motivation, it is like a muscle. It becomes stronger with use.

Omar Perui is one of the world’s top motivational speakers. He was a self-made multi-millionaire before the age of 31, owning some of the most profitable health clubs, sports medicine facilities and other businesses. Below you will find some tips from Perui that you can use in your daily life. These are applicable in your business and personal life.

1. Always act with a purpose. If you don’t know why you are doing something, what is the point? It is meaningless. What you are doing and why you are doing it must be clearly defined. This keeps you focused and you will be more apt to finish what you have started. Remember, never quit because success could be just around the corner.

2. Take responsibility for your own results. It is not whether you succeed or fail, it is what you do afterward what defines you. You have to continue to move forward even when you encounter setbacks. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Problems and set-backs are learning opportunities!

3. Don’t wait for perfection! Do it now! Perfectionists have to be very unhappy people. Perfection is hard to come by in both business and personal life. If you have a tendency to be a perfectionist, give it up. You can’t be happy. No one can do it as well as you can. And if you do it, it will still not be perfect. It is important to get out of your comfort zone. Great things happen when you step out of your box. Also, don’t procrastinate.

4. Surround yourself with motivated people. The people around you influence your behavior. They will bring you up or down to their level. I know you know people who suck the air out of the room. This type of person is not beneficial to you. Avoid these negative people. Seek out positive, well motivated people. They will help you stay motivated. Choose to be happy. Don’t settle for anything less.

I have listed below several books that you will find on the reading list of many successful people. Self development is another part of this process. Anyone of these books will help you for the better:

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen R. Covey

How to Win Friends and Influence People – Dale Carnegie

Think and Grow Rich – Napoleon Hill

Awaken the Giant Within – Anthony Robbins

As A Man Thinketh – James Allen

The Greatest Salesman in the World – Og Mandino

Add these titles to your reading list. You will not be sorry. Any of these books will help you.

Mike Moore, who is a speaker and writer, made the following comment, “Live fully in the present moment. When you live in the past or the future you aren’t able to make things happen in the present.”

Here is to a happy, healthy and successful New Year! Cheers.
